About Us

U3As are voluntary Seniors’ Groups that provide educational, recreational and social programs. Each U3A is organised by and for people who can best be described as being active in retirement or semi-retirement, the third age of our lives.

U3A Altona was established in 2006 by a small group of retirees and volunteers. We originally operated out of a small, shared office in the local Arts & Community Centre.  We are now located in the Senior Citizens building at 2 Sargood Street, Altona and have our own office space plus a modern computer room to run classes.

Membership has grown since 2006 to over 100 members and we offer approximately 15 regular courses per term.  We offer a range of regular courses per term. We also run a variety of short courses and social events.

As a small U3A branch we feel that we provide a personal, friendly and welcoming environment for people to participate in as many classes as they wish.

U3A Altona provide excursions and outings to many places of interest.  These activities are connected to our courses but also offer an opportunity to interact with other local groups, as well as learning it also gives members an opportunity to socialise.

Mission Statement

To promote lifelong learning and social interaction amongst our members in a healthy and active semi-retirement or retirement. To maintain and develop our skills while ensuring an affordable, safe and stress-free environment.  To  share our knowledge and skills with each other in an equal and voluntary capacity
